SharePoint supports creating calendars that can be used for tracking department events. Calendar events can be added from the SharePoint site. Calendars can also be connected to Microsoft Outlook.
Adding Items to a SharePoint Calendar
To add an item to a calendar, move your mouse to a date, and then click the Add link that appears on the date.
In the New Item window, enter the title for the event and a start and end time. You may also enter values into the optional fields. To make the event repeat, click the Make this a repeating event checkbox. You can then specify the frequency that the event will recur and set a date when the event will stop recurring. When finished, click the Save button and the event will be added to the calendar.

Editing a Calendar Event
To edit an event, double-click the item in the calendar. In the event popup window, click the Edit Item button in the toolbar. You can then edit any of the fields on the event. When finished, click the Save button. If you wish to remove the event from the calendar, click the Delete Item button on the toolbar. A confirmation popup will appear asking if you’re sure you want to remove the item. Click OK to move the event to the Recycle Bin.

Connecting a SharePoint Calendar to Outlook
You can add a classic SharePoint calendar to your personal Outlook. Once connected, you can add, edit or delete events from Outlook without having to open the calendar in SharePoint. Note that you cannot connect a SharePoint calendar to Outlook for Mac.
Navigate to the calendar in your SharePoint site and then click the CALENDAR tab on the toolbar.

In the CALENDAR toolbar, click the Connect to Outlook button.
A popup will appear asking permission to open Outlook click the Open button.
In Outlook, a popup will appear asking to connect the SharePoint calendar to Outlook. Click the Yes button.
The calendar will now be available in your My Calendars tab in Outlook.

You can remove a SharePoint calendar from Outlook by right-clicking on the calendar name, and then clicking Delete Calendar from the popup menu. Note that this only removes the calendar from your Outlook calendars. It does not make any changes to the calendar in SharePoint, and any events you created while connected through Outlook will remain on the SharePoint calendar.
