How to VPN in Using Global Protect and The Microsoft Authenticator App

These instructions will guide you through using the Global Protect application along with the Microsoft Authenticator Application to VPN in when working remote or off site to gain access to the City's network resources.

Definitions

The Microsoft Authenticator Application - The Microsoft Authenticator app helps you sign in to your accounts when you're using two-step verification. Two-step verification helps you to use your accounts more securely because passwords can be forgotten, stolen, or compromised. Two-step verification uses a second step like your phone to make it harder for other people to break in to your account.

The Global Protect Application - GlobalProtect is Palo Alto Networks' VPN solution, which delivers the capabilities of their Security Operating Platform to remote workers and mobile devices. It provides excellent protection for network connections, as well as in-depth visibility into who is accessing an organization's network.

Instructions

 

• You will first connect to your home Wifi or your phones HotSpot (Data speeds may possibly be slower using your phones HotSpot)

 

• If you are working on a Personnel home computer, you will need to download the Global Protect Client From here https://gp.goodyearaz.gov/global-protect/login.esp   (If you are using a City issued laptop disregard the instructions for installing Global Protect it will already be installed. Just type in Global Protect in your Windows search bar )

 

• On the webpage you will be asked to sign in. You will sign in using your city network credentials for the username and password (the same username and password you use to log into you PC/Laptop}

 

                                 

 

 

• Please choose “Download Windows 64 bit GlobalProtect”

 

                               

 

• Once downloaded run the installation setup by double clicking the installer, which you will see in the bottom left corner of the browser.

 

                                                

 

• If you do not see it, please check your downloads folder.

 

• Once the installer is running you will be presented with this screen

 

                                                  

 

 

• Click “Next”

 

• IF you are presented with a screen asking if it is ok for the installer to make changes, click “Yes”

 

 

                                               

 

• You will be presented with the following screen stating where the install folder will be located, please click “Next”

 

 

                                               

• Please click “Next” to begin instillation

 

 

• Once installed Global Protect will open. Please put in “gp.goodyearaz.gov” into the portal address field and click connect (If this screen is presented)

 

                                                                

 

 

• When you hit connect it will ask you to put in your username and password. This will be the same username and password that you use to log into your PC/Laptop, Then click sign in.

 

                                                                                

 

 

• It will start connecting and will send a notification to your phone through the Microsoft Authenticator app to approve your sign in.

                                       

                                                                                       

 

 

 

• Click approve and once Global Protect says “connected” you are connected to the City Network
