Mapping and Adding The Microsoft Authenticator App to a new Mobile Device

Overview

These instructions will guide you through the process of adding and mapping your Microsoft Authenticator Application to another device. Case scenario would be if you upgraded or purchased a new phone.  

Definitions

Microsoft Authenticator App - The Microsoft Authenticator app helps you sign in to your accounts when you're using two-step verification. Two-step verification helps you to use your accounts more securely because passwords can be forgotten, stolen, or compromised. Two-step verification uses a second step like your phone to make it harder for other people to break in to your account.

Instructions

 

 

  • It may ask for your credentials again to sign into your Office 360 account so please have your old device that has the Microsoft Authenticator set up on it, as It will send the approval to the old device (if you no longer have your old device. Please call the HelpDesk as they can add your new number or reset your MFA)

 

  • After you have input your credentials and you have approved the log in (If this step is needed) It will present you with this screen

 

                                                

 

  • Click the delete button that is next to your devices name. It will say "Authenticator app – Device name – and serial number for device"

 

                                             

 

  • Once done you will get a screen that says Deleting authenticator app.

 

                                                            

 

 

  • Once done it will return you back to the original “Additional security verification screen

            and will now say “set up Authenticator App” in blue, click on "Set up Authenticator App"

 

                                                                   

 

  • A QR code will appear

 

 

                                          

 

 

  • Open the Authenticator app on your phone click the +  sign on the top right corner and choose work or school account 

 

                                                 

 

  • You will get prompted to allow The Microsoft App to use the camera and send notifications.

Click allow on all prompts

 

  • A camera window will appear asking you to scan the QR code

 

                                                               

 

  • Scan the QR code that appeared on your screen

 

  • Click next on the MFA enrollment screen

 

                    

                                         

  • With the app still open on your phone it will ask you to verify the changes you have made by sending you an “Approve or Deny’’ dialogue box

 

                                                   

 

  • Click on approve

 

  • Go back to the screen on your PC and Click save

 

                   

 

 

  • A window will pop up that states “Verification required” Click on “Verify preferred option”

                            

 

 

  • You will get another request to “Approve” click on approve

 

                                   

 

  • You will get a screen that says “Updates Successful” Click on the close button

 

                    

 

 

  • You should be all set with MFA now.
