Overview
These instructions will guide you through installing the Microsoft Authenticator App on your mobile device in order to approve VPN notifications when logging into Global Protect and Microsoft Products.
Definitions
The Microsoft Authenticator App - The Microsoft Authenticator app helps you sign in to your accounts when you're using two-step verification. Two-step verification helps you to use your accounts more securely because passwords can be forgotten, stolen, or compromised. Two-step verification uses a second step like your phone to make it harder for other people to break in to your account. You can use the Authenticator app in multiple ways:
GlobalProtect - GlobalProtect is Palo Alto Networks’ VPN solution, which delivers the capabilities of their Security Operating Platform to remote workers and mobile devices.
Instructions
- First please download the Microsoft Authenticator App from the app store for your device (Ex. For Samsung: Google Play Store. for Apple, The App Store)

- Once there you will log in with your city credentials (The same credentials you use to log in to your desktop and Outlook account)

- Once logged you will see this screen

- Choose notify me through app in the drop-down menu and check Authentication Phone (Make sure your authentication phone is your correct phone number)
- Check Authenticator app or Token
- Now Click on “Set up Authenticator App”

- Open the Authenticator app on your phone and choose work or school account

- You will get prompted to allow The Microsoft App to use the camera and send notifications.
Click allow on all prompts
- A camera window will appear asking you to scan the QR code

- Scan the QR code that appeared on your screen
- Click next on the MFA enrollment screen

- With the app still open on your phone it will ask you to verify the changes you have made by sending you an “Approve or Deny’’ dialogue box

- Go back to the screen on your PC and Click save

- A window will pop up that states “Verification required” Click on “Verify preferred option”
- You will get another request to “Approve” click on approve

- You will get a screen that says “Updates Successful” Click on the close button

- You should be all set with MFA now.
